    Excavate the border trench

    A trench is cut along the bed line so stone sits partly below grade and stays put.

    Set and level stone

    Each piece is set, leveled and fitted tight to its neighbors for a continuous line.

    Backfill and compact

    Soil is backfilled behind the stone and compacted to lock the border.

  5. 5

    Finish beds and clean up

    Beds are raked out, mulch is dressed to the new edge, and the site is blown clean.

Why stone instead of plastic or metal edging?
Plastic edging heaves out of the ground with freeze and thaw cycles and becomes brittle in sun. Stone is set into a trench, holds its line permanently, and looks substantially better.
Can you edge existing beds?
Yes. Most of this work is done on established beds, and we can reshape the bed line at the same time if you want a different curve.
Does stone edging help with mulch washout?
Considerably. A raised stone border holds mulch inside the bed during heavy North Texas rain instead of letting it run into the turf.
